A group of researchers of MIT identified a new system for the storage of solar energy.
Thanks to the employment of carbon nanotube, infact, it would be possible to realize a chemical mix that permitts to conserve for a lung time the energy with no loss.
The thermochemical conversion of solar energy, proposed by this study, based on the use of a molecule that change its own structure manteining it according to its exposition to solar light. The molecule, stimulated by a catalyst or by external driven pulses, issues energy under form of warmth.
The proposed system, however, has got limits. First at all, the short duration of the needed chemical compounds for this typer of processes; they degrade after few cycles of life and the employment of expensive and rare elements.
